The Day It Changed

My name is Aaron, and this is how it started. Some guy in a big jacket was handing out free trials for some new gum ball or something. Some of them were green and some of them were yellow. My parents said that I wasn't allowed to have sugar because of some medical condition or something, so I couldn't have any, but a lot of my friends tried the green ones and said that they tasted weird. The next day, none of my friends that had tried the gum showed up for school, I had assumed that they got sick from the gum balls, but if i had realised why they weren't at school that day then I would of run for the hills. The strange man was at the mall while I was on the way home. I saw dozens of people picking up green gum balls and putting them in their mouths, then I saw the look of disgust that came across their faces as they bit into them. No one seemed to want the yellow ones for some reason. The next day, the man was still there, and still more people were taking the green ones. I decided to disobey my parents as I walked up to the man. I mean come on, what's the worst that could happen? Besides, I was with my friend Jane, if anything happened to me then she'd call the ambulance. I got to the man and a strange forced made me want to take a green one, but I forced my arm to move towards a yellow one. As I took it, the man gave me a look. The kind of look you'd give to someone who disappointed, or upset  you. I decided to just walk away and have the gum ball later. At lunch, Jane and I were in the courtyard outside our class when I got out the gum ball. "Are you sure you wanna try it? All of the people that have had them have gotten sick, and you have that medical condition right? So why go through with it?" Jane said.
"I dunno, I guess I just felt like I had to for some reason."
"Oh, ok, well I have my phone out if you get sick or anything."
"Thanks." And with that, I put the gum ball in my mouth and began chewing. My tongue started to burn, as if I was eating electricity. Sparks flew out of my mouth and made scorch marks on the ground. Jane was staring at me and telling me to stop chewing, but I couldn't hear her, and I couldn't stop chewing. My mouth opened and closed, over and over again, until I swallowed it by mistake. The burning faded, and we sat there in silence. All of a sudden my insides tightened and my whole body buzzed with energy. I got up and stood in front of Jane. "Jane, that was amazing! I don't know how anyone could ever get sick off of those, they're heavenly! I have so much energy! I feel like I could jump from here to the mall and back in one go!" I bent my knees, swung my arms back, and pushed off the ground. I launched upwards and didn't stop going. I looked down and saw Jane standing in front of the bench we had been sitting on. I could see the room of the class room, the main road out front, and even a few birds flying beneath my feet. I kept going higher and higher, up into the air. I though I was going to go all the way into space, but then I began to fall. Faster, faster, the wind whistling in my ears. Faster, faster, I was going to die! I could see the ground coming closer and closer, then I began to fall slower. The wind became quiet, I floated softly to the ground, my adrenaline filled flight finally over. Jane rushed forward and hugged me with tears in her eyes. "Oh my god, I thought you were going to die!"
"Me too! Isn't it great?!"
"No! What if you had died?"
"Then I would of died a happy man."
"What about me? What about your parents? What about all your other friends? What would we of done if you died?"
"I dunno."
"Fine. I'm going to my next class."
"Ok, I'm going home. Bye!" I said, as I launched myself into the sky and aimed towards home.

I was going to go home, but on the way there a thought occurred to me. I landed and jumped in the direction of my friends house. I was with him when he took a green gum ball and ate it. He had been sick ever since. I jumped and landed in the middle of a road, narrowly missing a car. I launched myself up into the air again and landed on my friends street. I walked up to his house and knocked on the door, but there was no answer. I knocked again, but still no answer. His mum's car was there, and he should be at home. I heard a low growling, it almost sounded like a dog, but he didn't have a dog. I jumped over his house and landed in front of his back door, outside his bedroom. "Tom!" I yelled, no answer. I was reaching under the mat for the spare key when the door opened and the strong smell of rotting flesh blew through the door, making me vomit all over Tom's shoes. I looked up at a face that was the same, yet different. Tom's skin had turned green, he had skin and flesh dripping down his face and his eyes were hollow. He looked at me with a hungry expression on his face. "Tom, what happened?"
"The gum, it turned me into... this. A zombie, if you will, now I'm hungry for flesh. I already ate my parents, but now I want more!" He rushed at me as I scrambled to my feet and jumped high into the air, landing on his roof.
"Come on man, it's me. Remember?"
"I remember everything, the only thing that's changed for me is that I'm stronger, fitter, faster and I have a lust for blood. Now come down and let me taste your sweet sweet skin and bones."
"You're sick!" I yelled as I began to jump back towards school. I had to tell Jane.

When I got to school there was no one around, the place was completely empty. I called out to someone, anyone. It was completely silent. I jumped to another part of the school and it was the same. I felt my phone go off in my pocket, I reached for it and checked who was trying to contact me. It was a text from Jane, she said "I don't think that we should be friends any more, you were never a really good friend to me so, i guess that we shouldn't be friends any more." I felt my insides die as I read it out loud. I slowly put my phone away and heard a low growling behind me. I quickly turned to see another zombie standing there, just like Tom except this one was a girl. She charged at me with incredible speed as I jumped up into the air and landed far away behind her. She came running back at me and I jumped again, this time landing on the roof of my class room on the other side of the school. I jumped off the roof and landed next to the green sculpture in the middle of the courtyard. I looked around and saw Jane standing there, she looked pale. "Jane we need to get out of here now!" I told her.
"I had a gum ball Aaron" she said as she walking towards me.
"You what? Please don't tell me it was a green one. Please, no!"
"I, I just couldn't help myself, it was calling to me and I just couldn't resist it any more. I'm sorry." I jumped up onto the statue.
"Jane, that's what's spreading it, the gum balls are turning people into zombies!"
"I know." Tears were streaming down her face.
"Jane, I'm sorry I was a bad friend, I'm sorry I didn't treat you the way I should of. I love you, I always have."
"Aaron, what are you doing? Don't leave me!" But it was too late, I was already getting ready to jump. I flew into the air, and as I looked back I saw Jane standing there, her skin green and her eyes hollow.
