Verfluchtburg

This is a story about a small village named Verfluchtburg. Translated, Verfluchtburg means "Cursed Castle". The village got it's name for one reason. Long ago there was a small, nameless village built within the shadow of a grand castle. The village was ruled by an evil king who treated his people badly and took possession of most of the villagers belongings, including their cattle, leaving them poor and hungry. God saw the kings wrong doings and threatened to take his life, but the king promised to change his ways. God gave him another chance but was let down when he saw that the king had in fact worsened his ways, making the villagers give him everything they had so that they were left with only one set of clothes and a blanket. God became angry with the king and killed him inside his castle, sending him to Hell. The Devil was also watching the village and when the king arrived in Hell he said to him, "my son, you have created much sorrow and anger in your life. For this you will be rewarded." The king went to sleep within the Devil's arms. When he awoke he found himself in a tomb with his name on the door. His teeth were sharp, he was much stronger than any man, and he was hungry for the blood of the villagers that he loathed. He attacked the people in the village one at a time starting with the oldest. He kidnapped people, killing them and leaving their bodies behind, drained of blood. His attacks lasted for several years, and for all that time, he never attacked any of his descendants. A wise man of the village took a group of hunters to the kings tomb during midday when the sun was at it's highest. They carried wooden stakes, swords and garlic. When they entered the tomb and open the king's coffin, they found his body was perfectly preserved. They drove a stake through the kings heart. The men were shocked to find that the corpse began screaming in agony at the stake being plunged through it. Blood was spraying everywhere when one of the hunters cut the vampire's head off and stuffed it with garlic. The corpse was still once again and there was a time of peace.

After the death of what became known as "The Vampire King", a descendant of the king replaced him. This king was just as bad as his ancestor. He was so bad that he cause many of his people to give up their own lives because he caused so much pain in their lives. Both God and Satan were watching this king. Soon God was fed up with him and took his life. This time the villagers weren't aware of the kings death and Satan let him return to life but with a change. This time the king would turn into a wolf during the night and he would take out the hearts of his villagers and rip open their flesh. Many people tried to catch the wolf but since the attacks happened at night they could not see the wolf until they heard the screams of it's victim, but at that time, it was too late. The villagers became angry at their king for not doing anything about the attacks. One day they led a rebellion against the king. The villagers carried sword and rifles loaded with silver bullets. When they reached the castle they bust into the kings bedroom and witnessed his transformation into
a wolf. The villagers shot him in the heart, killing him. They then proceeded to burn his body.

The king's family continued to rule over the town for many years. One of the kings was kind and cared for his people, sharing his wealth with the town. The Devil, Lucifer, wasn't happy with this and compelled the king with the spirits of his ancestors, making him twice as bad. He killed many of his townspeople and drove many of them to the brink of insanity, pushing them over the edge. Again the villagers rebelled, killing him.

And thus, the line of evil kings ended. A new family was instated as rulers of the village and they moved into the castle. However, Lucifer had sent the souls of those three kings to live within the castle and haunt its inhabitants as well as the villagers, and they have yet to be destroyed. All that live within, and in the shadow of the castle are cursed to live a life of torment and murder caused by the three evil kings.

The town has since been abandoned and crumbled away to dust by time, yet the ghosts still remain. This is how that place got it's name, and how it shall forever stay.
